Fine Art Giclée Printing

About Fine Art Prints

More about substrates: paper & canvas

Museum-quality watercolour papers and canvas are the standard fine art media for printmaking in our studio.

Somerset Velvet Enhanced watercolour paper has a proprietary inkjet coating and is available in two weights - 255 and 330 gsm. Aquarelle and Somerset Velvet are uncoated watercolour papers. Arches Aquarelle is available in hot and cold press. All papers are 100% cotton, mould-made, acid-free, lignin-free papers. We have roll stock in several widths and premium weight sheets.

Legion Canvas has incredible colour rendition, outstanding resolution, and is pliable enough to withstand stretching without cracking.

Additional substrates are available on special order. Pricing information and substrate details can be found here.

Printer, inks and print permanence

Prints are created on the Epson Stylus Pro 9600 and 9800 at 1440dpi or higher using Epson UltraChrome pigment inks.

The pigment inks by Epson are properly matched to our premium substrates and will last from 70 to more than 200 years under continuous lighting conditions. This is better than conventional printing methodologies. For more information, read Print Permanence Information from Wilhelm Imaging Research.

Giclée prints - what are they?

Giclée, fine art inkjet, and digital print are all used today to represent the modern process of creating museum-quality archival prints on fine art substrates with pigmented inks using a very high quality large-format printer.

Giclée prints are well accepted in galleries, museums, and private collections. The growth in the market for giclée prints has made them a highly collectible and established medium in the fine art community. Giclée prints have higher resolution and richer colour in comparison with lithography and are replacing the traditional methods.
